Dessin Animal Shelter IS making a Difference in Pet
Overpopulation!
In the past few weeks Dessin has
sold $10,000 worth of
vouchers! This has helped fund
the sterilization of more than 210 family owned pets, preventing the
births of approximately 800 unwanted kittens and 150 unwanted puppies
this year alone.
But now the program is in
need of funds. Please help us by donating what you can.
Donate online via PayPal, or mail
your donation to the shelter at 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale, Pa 18437.
Either way you can earmark the money for the Spay/Neuter Program.
Why Spay/Neuter: Overpopulation Facts
-
Two unaltered cats and all their descendents can theoretically number 420,000 in
just seven years.
-
Two unaltered dogs and all their descendents can theoretically number 67,000 in
just six years.
-
"No homes for littermates" is one of the top ten reasons people relinquish their
cats and dogs to shelters.
-
An estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year. That's
one about every six and one half seconds.
-
Tens of millions of stray and feral cats struggle to survive on their own
outdoors. Although some are altered and live in managed colonies, most are not
altered and receive no health care. They reproduce at will and many suffer from
illness or injury before dying.
-
In a study of relinquishment of cats and dogs in 12 U.S. animal shelters, 30% of
the surrendered dogs were purebreds.

Dessin's Spay/Neuter Program
We can help to subsidize the cost of spaying or neutering your dog or
cat. We do this with a voucher program.
Here's how the program works:
You may purchase a
voucher from us at a cost of $15 to use for your cat. This voucher is worth
$35 toward neutering a male cat, $50 toward spaying a female cat.
Or, you may purchase
a voucher from us at a cost of $25 for your dog. This voucher is worth
$65 toward neutering a male dog, or $85 toward spaying a female dog.
These vouchers can be used at many of the local veterinary clinics
(see
list below) and must be used within 30 days of purchase, so it's best to
make the appointment with the vet before purchasing the voucher.
That's all there is to it!
The price paid for the vouchers goes back into the program. These fees,
along with donations earmarked for the spay/neuter program and some of
our fund raising money will ensure the continuation
of this worthwhile program.
may be purchased at the shelter.
