WAYNE COUNTY WOMAN CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY FOLLOWING METH LAB BUST

DREHER TWP., WAYNE COUNTY (June 3, 2014) -  Lori Ann Graham, 625 N. South Turnpike Rd., Newfoundland, has been charged with cruelty to animals after 12 dogs were discovered living in deplorable conditions on her property.  Graham, Curtis James Buskirk, Wind Gap; and Christine Albulov, Grand Rapids, Mich., were arrested Thursday on four felony charges: causing or risking a catastrophe, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of methamphetamine and possession of pseudophedrine, lithium, hydriodic acid and sodium hydroxide with the intent to manufacture.   The dogs are recovering, either at Dessin Animal Shelter, or in the homes of approved foster parents, at the expense of the Olga and Dorothea Dessin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a nonprofit in Honesdale.  They will be ready for foster and adoption as soon as their health conditions permit.  Applications can be obtained from Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale, on the web at www.DessinShelter.com or by calling 570-253-4037.  Anyone who wishes to donate funds to help offset costs of their surgery and medical care, may mail a check to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale, PA  18431 or donate securely via PayPal at DessinShelter.com.  Please specify "Newfoundland dogs.”

Dessin Rescues More Than 50 Beagles in Conjunction with Suspected Homicide

On Sunday, September 9, PA Humane Officer Marlene Metzger, employed by Dessin Animal Shelter, was contacted by Pennsylvania state police to assess animal welfare at ahome in Newfoundland, Wayne County, where a husband is suspected of shooting his wife.  She, with the help of shelter staff and a Dessin volunteer, rescued 51 beagles ranging in ages from three-months-old to around seven-years-old.

We are continuing to evaluate the dogs' health. At first glance, they appear to be well nourished, loving and friendly.  The shelter began accepting adoption applications on Monday, September 10.  You may download one by clicking on the “Adopt” page or stop in during business hours at 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale.

Prior to adoption, all beagles will be spayed or neutered, dewormed, receive vaccinations and flea and tick preventative care and will be microchipped.  We expect they'll be ready to go to their new homes in a few weeks.

As you can imagine, this has taken a significant toll on our staff and resources. Please be patient if you are trying to phone the shelter at 253-4037. You may also email us at Dessin@ptd.net

We are in dire need of both physical and monetary donations. Please consider stopping by the shelter or donating via PayPal on the “Donate” page.  You may also mail contributions to:
