Dessin Rescues More Than 50 Beagles in Conjunction with Suspected Homicide
On Sunday, September 9, PA
Humane Officer Marlene Metzger, employed by Dessin Animal Shelter, was
contacted by Pennsylvania state police to assess animal welfare at ahome
in Newfoundland, Wayne County, where a husband is suspected of shooting his
wife. She, with the help of shelter
staff and a Dessin volunteer, rescued 51 beagles ranging in ages from three-months-old
to around seven-years-old.
We are continuing to evaluate the dogs' health. At first glance, they appear
to be well nourished, loving and friendly. The shelter began
accepting adoption applications on Monday, September 10. You may download one by clicking on the “Adopt”
page or stop in during business hours at 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale.
Prior to adoption, all beagles will be spayed or neutered, dewormed, receive
vaccinations and flea and tick preventative care and will be microchipped. We expect they'll be ready to go to their new
homes in a few weeks.
As you can imagine, this has taken a significant toll on our staff and
resources. Please be patient if you are trying to phone the shelter at
253-4037. You may also email us at Dessin@ptd.net.
We are in dire need of both physical and monetary donations. Please consider
stopping by the shelter or donating via PayPal on the “Donate” page. You may also mail contributions to:
