When Animals Die in Shelters: Who Really Kills Them?

We have become a nation whereby people just don't want to accept the responsibility of the consequences of their actions. For every action there is a reaction.

There is a movement in this country that is deceptive at best and is causing animals unnecessary suffering. This movement is the "No Kill" (NK). The term alone is deceiving. If you aren't for No Kill, then you must be for killing, is how the public perceives it with the use of this term. Roger Caras, longtime President of the ASPCA, called No Kill a hoax, something that hurts shelters and he was right.

Humane Society Police Officer and Humane Educator Marlene Metzger is available to address groups on a variety of topics related to Humane Education.  Programs available for all ages.  Topics include, but are not limited to:

Spay/Neuter
Feral Cat Trap/Release
Dog Bite Prevention
Be Kind to Animals
Pet Care
Horse Care
Animal Cruelty Laws
Rabies
Safety Around Animals

Offsite Donation Drop Sites

Waymart Building Center (244 South St., Waymart, PA) is Dessin's newest drop-off site for donations.  Dessin's wish list will be posted and donations accepted during normal business hours.  The wish list is also posted at the shelter, at The Cat's Pajamas thrift store, and here on the web site.  In addition to the shelter and The Cat's Pajamas, REMAX of Greentown (1345 Route 507) remains a drop-off site.
